Numerical solution of variational problems via Haar wavelet quasilinearization technique
In this paper, a numerical solution based on Haar wavelet quasilinearization (HWQ) is used for finding the solution of nonlinear Euler-Lagrange equations which arise from the problems in calculus of variations. Some examples of variational problems are given and outcomes compared with exact solutions to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the method.
متن کاملProbabilistic analysis of discrete optimization problems
We investigate the performance of exact algorithms for hard optimization problems under random inputs. In particular, we prove various structural properties that lead to two general average-case analyses applicable to a large class of optimization problems. In the first part we study the size of the Pareto curve for binary optimization problems with two objective functions. Pareto optimal solut...
متن کاملDomination analysis of combinatorial optimization problems
We use the notion of domination ratio introduced by Glover and Punnen in 1997 to present a new classification of combinatorial optimization (CO) problems: DOM-easy and DOM-hard problems. It follows from results proved already in the 1970’s that min TSP (both symmetric and asymmetric versions) is DOM-easy. We prove that several CO problems are DOM-easy including weighted max k-SAT and max cut. W...
متن کاملIdempotent Interval Analysis and Optimization Problems
Many problems in optimization theory are strongly nonlinear in the traditional sense but possess a hidden linear structure over suitable idempotent semirings. After an overview of ‘Idempotent Mathematics’ with an emphasis on matrix theory, interval analysis over idempotent semirings is developed. The theory is applied to construction of exact interval solutions to the interval discrete stationa...
متن کاملMetaheuristic Optimization: Algorithm Analysis and Open Problems
Metaheuristic algorithms are becoming an important part of modern optimization. A wide range of metaheuristic algorithms have emerged over the last two decades, and many metaheuristics such as particle swarm optimization are becoming increasingly popular. Despite their popularity, mathematical analysis of these algorithms lacks behind. Convergence analysis still remains unsolved for the majorit...
